Dropbox Teams Upgrade
james October 27th, 2011
Dropbox announced a much needed upgrade to their Teams Plan:
We’re really excited to announce a new change: Starting November 1, Dropbox for Teams will include a lot more space!
Your Teams account will automatically start with 200GB of storage for every user on your team. If you need even more space, give us a call and we’ll work with you to increase your quota. This means that Dropbox will grow with your business! For Teams who have purchased storage packs in the past, we’ll credit the cost to your account over the next several weeks.
Thanks for letting Dropbox be a part of your business. We hope we can continue making every day a bit easier! :)
Happy Dropboxing,
The Dropbox Team
I use Dropbox for collaboration within my company and it has been a huge improvement in our workflow since we started using their system. My company has gradually increased redundancy with some of our data as well as gradually moved more of our server to be used within Dropbox. We have remote employees and I am sometimes in the field and need to push or pull data quickly and easily to do my work which was difficult before Dropbox. The end result is that 350GB was not enough for our 6 user dropbox system (this can be used on more than 6 workstations so it is easy to think of this as 5 profiles + your server). We had to upgrade 1 user and 2 size upgrades of 100GB each while still holding back and not being able to use Dropbox the way we wanted. With todays announced change, our bill will go from $795 (team package) + $125 (1 user upgrade) + $400 (2 size upgrades of 100GB each, 200GB total) to just $795 + $125 per year. Our bill will go down and we will expand our usage of Dropbox to better suit our needs.
Another interesting piece of information comes from their pricing page. Under storage for Dropbox teams they now say:
As much as you need*
and the asterisk follows to:
* Teams start with 1,000 GB of storage for five users, with 200 GB added for each additional user. If you need additional space, give us a call and we’ll work with you to increase your quota.
I am not sure what that will mean functionally but it sounds positive and we will be talking to them if we reach our current 1.2TB limit (listed as 1.17TB in our dropbox panel now).
